Driving licence
The main driver must carry a valid national driving licence together with any International Driving Permit required for Japan, plus a passport and credit card in the driver’s name.
Road tolls and parking
Japanese expressways are generally tolled. Fuel, tolls and hotel or city parking are payable locally unless the confirmed offer states otherwise.
Seasonal conditions
Mountain roads may require winter tyres or chains during colder months. Some scenic roads can close temporarily because of snow or severe weather.
